Album Review: Greenday, Saviours
Vintage effort from punk hall of famers. 8/10
2024 is a big year for punk legends Green Day. Not only does it mark 30 years since their breakthrough album Dookie, it’s also the 20th anniversary of their politically charged smash hit American Idiot. They’ve also just released a new baby out into the wild too, and fittingly enough, Saviors is something of a spiritual heir to the aforementioned records.
Green Day’s year on the road with Weezer as part of the Hella Mega Tour has clearly rubbed off on them, as there’s a fistful of fiendishly catchy tunes featuring Rivers Cuomo-style hooks, including ‘Suzie Chapstick’ and ‘Bobby Sox’. The Ramones and Generation X are also invoked, with standouts include the ’70s glam-sprinkled ‘Corvette Summer’, and the power-pop minded, soon-to-be-live-favourite ‘Goodnight Adeline’.
A fast and furious thrill ride that rarely stops for a breather, Saviors sees Green Day in top-notch form.
OUT NOW.
