Ye Vagabonds and Tiny Ark premiering new film Nine Waves next month
The folk duo’s film accompanies their critically acclaimed album of the same name.
Ye Vagabonds and Tiny Ark, the award-winning video production company, have announced the release of their new film Nine Waves that will premiere at The Light House Cinema on Tuesday, March 21.
The duo – comprising brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn – released their third album Nine Waves in May 2022 via Rough Trade’s River Lea label which was produced by John ‘Spud’ Murphy.
The album was awarded ‘Best Folk Album’ at the 2022 RTE Folk Awards and its breakout single ‘Blue Is The Eye’ has been nominated for the RTE Choice Prize Music Awards ‘Irish Song of the Year’.
News for ye! On the 21st of March, we’re launching a full film to accompany Nine Waves with a one-off screening in the @LightHouseD7 in Dublin.

Ye Vagabonds decided to produce a film showcasing each individual track on Nine Waves instead of opting for the typical approach artists take in terms of releasing music videos.
According to a press release, “Nine Waves is a visual postcard of the sound world that the album inhabits, primarily based within a derelict building in Dublin, and on location on the island of Arranmore, off the coast of Donegal.”
The film was directed by Tiny Ark co-founder and creative director Alex Delap. A handful of artists will be featured in the film including the duo’s regular musical collaborators Alain McFadden, Ryan Hargadon, Cormac Begley and Crash Ensemble’s Caimin Gilmore and Kate Ellis, as well as dancers Stephanie Dufresne and Cristian Enmanuel Dirocie. Arranmore bar owner Jerry Early will also make an appearance.
The Nine Waves album received positive reviews after its release last year.
Hot Press’s John Walshe wrote that the album delivered the duo's “instantly recognisable style” and more. “... in the Mac Gloinns’ hands, the journey is nonetheless beautiful, as is the yearningly gorgeous ‘Blue Is The Eye’. Three albums in and the quality control remains as high as ever.”
In addition to the new film, Ye Vagabonds are performing two shows at Dublin’s Vicar Street on March 31 and April 1, and tickets for the performances can be purchased here.
Tickets to see the film at its premiere are €10 and can be purchased online here.
