Tradfluencer - The Sharon Shannon Story, a documentary exploring the life and career of musician Sharon Shannon will air on RTÉ, May 18.
It follows Shannon's career spanning over forty years. Featuring live performances and interviews, it traces Shannon's journey from her upbringing in rural county Clare to performances around the world.
The documentary reflects on key moments in her career, including her time with The Waterboys, her 1991 self-titled debut album, and her involvement in A Woman's Heart.
"It's been a nostalgic and moving trip down memory lane looking back on my life and career for this documentary", said Shannon. "Music has brought me huge joy throughout my life, and I've loved sharing the tunes with audiences worldwide. I'm so grateful to all the musicians and singers who have collaborated with me over the years, and I loved getting together with so many of them while filming the documentary".
Friends and collaborators feature throughout the film, including Adam Clayton, Imelda May, and Francis Black to name a few. Each share their perspective on her musicianship and approach to collaboration.
Shannon explores her personal story, speaking on her experience with loss, her ongoing experience with anxiety, and the importance of music as a constant throughout her life.
Sharon Shannon has a discography featuring 12 studio albums, from her self-titled debut in 1991, to her most recent album NOW!.
Her 4-time platinum album The Galway Girl: The Best of Sharon Shannon, was released in 2008. The 13-track compilation album featured guests such as Steve Earle, and Damien Dempsey. The single, 'Galway Girl' won most downloaded track at the Meteor Awards in 2007 and 2009, making her the youngest ever recipient of the award.
