TG4 documentary to focus on murder of Olivia Dunlea
The episode will air on Wednesday, March 5 at 9:30pm.
The murder case of 36-year-old Olivia Dunlea, a mother of three, will be featured in Marú inár Measc, a three-part true crime documentary series produced by Midas Productions for TG4. The series explores the impact of crimes on victims’ families and their communities.
Olivia’s story will be the focus of episode 3, airing on March 5, 2025. She was murdered by her boyfriend, Darren Murphy, whom she had been dating for just eight weeks. Murphy was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018 and is now eligible to apply for parole.
On February 17, 2013, after taking a taxi back to her house at around 1AM, Murphy stabbed Olivia six times while lying in bed. While she was still alive, he set fire to her duvet and another in the kitchen before fleeing the scene. Neighbours later reported the fire.
"This documentary explores the dangers of stalking and the rising numbers of femicide cases in Ireland and how murder cases like Olivia’s are dealt with in the judicial system," reads the Marú inár Measc logline.
The episode features interviews with Olivia’s relatives, including her daughter Megan, who speaks for the first time about the lasting impact of her mother’s murder on her life and that of her brothers.
