Sky announces British adaptation of Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live UK will feature SNL creator Lorne Michaels as an executive producer.
British broadcaster Sky has announced a UK adaptation of Saturday Night Live.
Sky have said the late-night live comedy show will be filmed in London, promising a "star-studded lineup of hosts" and to stay faithful to the "live, fast-paced style" of the original format.
SNL creator Lorne Michaels will act as an executive producer on the British version of the sketch show.
"For over 50 years Saturday Night Live has held a unique position in TV and in our collective culture, reflecting and creating the global conversation all under the masterful comedic guidance of Lorne Michaels," said Cécile Frot-Coutaz, Sky's chief content officer. "The show has discovered and nurtured countless comedy and musical talents over the years and we are thrilled to be partnering with Lorne and the SNL team to bring an all-British version of the show."
Other UK broadcasters have previously attempted to recreate the juggernaut of US television.
Channel 4's Saturday Live was the British response to SNL in 1985, though it differed in format from the American sketch show. It leaned into alternative comedy, focusing more on standup and solo performers. It was later rebranded as Friday Night Live before its cancellation.
Saturday Night Live UK is expected to air on Sky Max in 2026.
