Scott Altman wins documentary Award at Dublin Independent Film Festival
The Dublin-born film director was a winner of the Hot Press ’Shoot To Thrill’ competition in 2013 – and he has now scooped the big prize for his documentary on homelessness, simply entitled 'Home'.
Scott Altman was announced last night as the winner of the Documentary Award, at the Dublin Independent Film Festival, for his film 'Home'.The film explores the issue of homelessness in Dublin, bringing the stark immediacy of the challenges faced by homeless people by speaking to those who are living on the streets.
Upon winning the award Altman said, 'When I started the film I didn't know much about the causes of homelessness and this project really opened my eyes to that. Its moments like this that make all the hard work worthwhile. I'm really grateful for this.'
This is not the first time that Altman has won a cinematic competition, either. He was the joint-winner of the Hot Press ’Shoot To Thrill’ competition back in 2013. The competition required entrants to produce a 30-second ad for Hot Press for us in cinemas and on TV. Altman delivered a superb, fast-moving ad which was highly praised by the judges – and subsequently seen in cinemas all over Ireland.
That same year, Altman worked with Kanye West and subsequently launched Defunct Films, under which guise he has directed and executive-produced hit pop videos for Shift K3Y, Philip George & Anton Powers and Jax Jones, amassing millions of views online and featuring in the Top 20 most downloaded videos on iTunes. More recently, Scott was commissioned by Saatchi & Saatchi to direct a series of adverts to promote the soft drink FreshBe. He also directed a pilot involving actors Alan Ford (Snatch), Adam Fogerty (Legend), Natasha Byrne (Holby City) and new talents. Scott recently returned from Los Angeles, where he directed his debut feature film.
Congrats Scott!
