Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton awarded TV Moment of the Year at Edinburgh TV Festival
Also nominated in the category was fellow Irish actor Saoirse Ronan
Nicola Coughlan and her Bridgerton co-star Luke Newton have been awarded TV Moment of the Year at the Edinburgh TV Festival Awards.
The pair were recognised for the much-talked-about “carriage scene” from the third season of the hit Netflix drama, topping a public vote to claim the prize.
The category also featured fellow Irish actor Saoirse Ronan, who was nominated for her appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
During the interview, Ronan drew applause for a pointed comment on gender-based violence. “It’s what girls have to think about all the time,” she said.
The awards saw a strong showing for Netflix, with TV drama Adolescence taking home Best Drama and Best Newcomer for 15-year-old actor Owen Cooper. Netflix was also named Streamer of the Year.
Other winners included Jessica Gunning for Best TV Actor - Drama for her performance in Baby Reindeer, Sophie Willan for Best TV Actor - Comedy for her performance in Alma’s Not Normal, After the Party for Best International Drama and Big Boys for Best Comedy Series.
Coughlan, meanwhile, has a busy slate ahead. The Galway native is set to star opposite her Derry Girls co-star Siobhán McSweeney in The Playboy of the Western World, opening in London this December and running until February 2026.
She will also appear in the next season of Channel 4’s I Am anthology series.
