Netflix unveils teaser for Vikings spin-off, filmed in Co. Wicklow
The teaser, which was filmed across Co. Wicklow, gives behind the scenes looks at the filming of Vikings Valhalla.
Vikings: Valhalla, the upcoming Netflix spin-off of Vikings, released its first looks today with a teaser that boasts gorgeous landscapes, cast interviews and exclusive scenes.
The show, which was filmed in Ashford Studios in Wicklow, promises to retain the 'core DNA' of the original series. Set 150 years after the original Vikings, Valhalla will introduce viewers to a completely new generation and cast of characters.
"Fans will find a lot of similar things in Valhalla, the historical accuracy, the depth, the suspense," said writer and showrunner Jeb Stuart. "But what fascinated me about this Viking story was we expand on the scope of all of that."
Taking place in the 11th century, the spin-off follows the lives of some of the most legendary Vikings in history — explorer Lief Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his strong-willed sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and Norwegian prince, Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) — as they navigate the tensions and turmoils of being a Viking during the age of English dominance.
"Within the original series, we saw Christianity being introduced to the pagans. There's definitely a lot more conflict between the two during our show," explained Corlett. Chronicling everything from religious conflict to family honour, Vikings Valhalla promises endless adventure.
Gustavvson reassured past viewers that the series will live up to its predecessor; "fans of Vikings are going to be very happy when they see that the core DNA of the show; great characters, epic scale battles, it's all there."
The new series will premiere later this month on February 25th.
