Netflix announces release date for ‘The English Game’ starring Niamh Walsh and Sam Keeley
The six-part drama charts the origins of football and how those involved in its creation reached across the class divide to establish the game as the world's most popular sport. The series is written and executive produced by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.
The drama series will explore the origins of the sport, tracking it back to Northern England in the mid-1800s.
Irish actors Niamh Walsh (Jamestown, Holby City) and Sam Keeley (Anthropoid, The Siege of Jadotville) join a long list of impressive actors such as Edward Holcroft, Kevin Guthrie, Charlotte Hope, James Harkness, Gerard Kearns, Joncie Elmore and Daniel Ings.
The series is directed by Birgitte Stærmose and Tim Fywell and produced by Rhonda Smith .
Executive producers include Julian Fellowes as well as Rory Aitken, Eleanor Moran and Ben Pugh for 42 and Eddie Charlton. Ben Vanstone is a Co-Executive Producer.
The English Game will be released on Netflix March 20 2020.
