Lords of Chaos The True Story Behind Black Metal Band Mayhem Gets Irish Release
Church burnings. Murder. Black Metal.
The story of one of the world’s most controversial bands is set to hit our screens this March.
Lords Of Chaos, the new film by Swedish filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund tells the bizarre true story of controversial black metal band Mayhem and the madness that surrounded its members in the early nineties.
Following the suicide of Mayhem bassist Per Yngve Ohlin (or his stage name ‘Dead’), the Norwegian black metal scene was sent into a frenzy of cataclysmic events all centred around the band - including numerous church burnings across Norway.
No stranger to the genre, Director Jonas Åkerlund was originally the drummer for Swedish black metal band Bathory in the early eighties, and has since directed music videos for icons Metallica (Whiskey in the Jar), Ozzy Osbourne (Gets Me Through) and U2 (Beautiful Day, Eze version) - as well as the feature films Spun and the upcoming Netflix film Polar.
Based on the book “Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground” by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind, the film stars Rory Culkin, Emory Cohen and Sky Ferreira. Lords of Chaos hits Irish screens on March 29th.
