KNEECAP nominated for Critics Choice Award
Alisha Weir, who starred in the vampire flick Abigail earlier this year, is also nominated for a Critics Choice Award in the Best Young Actor/Actress category.
Kneecap has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Critics Choice Awards in the US.
The lauded biopic is nominated in the company of other international heavy-hitters, such as Emilia Pérez.
Kneecap follows the eponymous rap group through post-Troubles Belfast, detailing their meteoric rise and how they became unlikely heroes of a civil rights movement to protect and revamp the Irish language.
It saw the acting debut of the group - Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara, and DJ Próvaí - who recently won best joint-lead performance at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA).
The film also won Best British Independent Film and Best Debut Screenwriter for Rich Peppiatt at this years’ BIFA.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting awards season for Irish film, with Kneecap continually picking up awards and nominations across the world, the latest being their Critics Choice nod.
Alongside Kneecap, the nominees for Best Foreign Language film include All We Imagine as Light, Emilia Pérez, Flow, I’m Still Here and The Seed of the Sacred Flag.
Dublin native Alisha Weir, who starred in the vampire flick Abigail earlier this year, is also nominated for a Critics Choice Award in the Best Young Actor/Actress category.
The Best Picture nominees at this year’s Critics Choice Awards include the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Anora, The Brutalist, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, The Substance and Wicked.
Conclave and Wicked lead the tally for the Critics Choice Awards with 11 nods each.
