KNEECAP announce Irish release date for feature film
The Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winning film will finally be available to watch in Irish cinemas this summer.
Belfast Irish language rappers KNEECAP have revealed an official release date of August 8 for their highly anticipated feature film KNEECAP.
The film, directed by English journalist Rich Peppiett’s somewhat fictionalised retelling of KNEECAP in post-Troubles Belfast. The film details how the rap group and became the unexpected face of a protest in defence of the Irish language.
Band members Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and JJ Ó Dochartaigh play themselves while Irish actor Michael Fassbender also joins the cast.
KNEECAP won Utah’s Sundance Film Festival Audience Award: NEXT in January, after becoming the first Irish-language title to ever premiere at the festival.
Before its nationwide cinema release, the film will be screened at the Galway Film Fleadh this summer on July 9.
Sharing the news of the film's official release in Irish cinemas on social media, the band said that the film will be: "Showing in all cinemas from Carrickfergus and Dundonald to Cork and Dublin".
They also added that opening weekend tickets were now on sale now from all cinemas.

KNEECAP will release their highly anticipated debut album, Fine Art, on June 14, via Heavenly Recordings.
