Jennifer Hudson pitches herself for live-action Hercules film
Jennifer Hudson played head muse Calliope on a Disney cruise ship before she found fame.
Jennifer Hudson has pitched herself for the upcoming Hercules live-action remake in a recent interview with Wired.
A live-action iteration of the 1997 classic Disney animation has been in the works for years. Despite there being no indication of when filming is scheduled to take place and no cast yet announced, the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame) are on board to produce.
Hudson put herself forward for the role of Head Muse, Calliope, explaining how she had played the role on a Disney cruise ship before she found fame.
“Y’all listen close – all my Dreamgirls cast members, this is a fun fact, have been in Disney films,” she told Wired. “Anika Noni Rose, Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx - Eddie Murphy has done everything. Where’s my Disney role?
“I was Calliope, the head Muse, on a Disney cruise ship, so that means I’m ready for my part. We are the Muses, goddesses of the arts and proclaimers of heroes. That was me, Calliope."
“So I’m ready, just roll the camera. You ain’t even got to send a script, I don’t need the music. I’m ready to shoot. So I’ll just wait for your call, thank you.”
The Russo brothers’ involvement in the upcoming film was confirmed last year, with Dave Callaham who wrote Wonder Woman 1984 set to pen the script. There has been no indication as to who will direct.
With little information available to date about the movie, fans have speculated whether the songs from the 1997 animation will be included in the remake or if they will focus on the original mythology, which 2020's re-do of Mulan attempted (anti-climatically...).
The Russos brothers told Collider last year that "music will certainly be a part of it. We're going to give you a different story. I think we'll do something that's in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table."
