Jason Sudeikis opens up about Olivia Wilde split
Sudeikis has said he wants to "learn something beyond the obvious" about the break up.
Jason Sudeikis has opened up about his split from ex-wife Olivia Wilde in a recent GQ article, saying he will "have a better understanding of why in a year".
The break-up was first reported in November of 2020, but Sudeikis is still processing what happened.
"I'll have a better understanding of why in a year and an even better one in two, and an even greater one in five, and it'll go from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle," he told the magazine.
"That's an experience that you either learn from or make excuses about," he said. "You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavour to learn something beyond the obvious from it."
Sudeikis won a Golden Globe earlier this year for Ted Lasso, in which he plays the titular role. The show picked up 20 Emmy nominations this year, making history as the most nominated freshman comedy series ever.
Sudeikis spoke about the show and it's striking resemblance to his life – by the end of the first season, Lasso is divorced and renegotiating his relationships with his now ex-wife and son.
"And yet one has nothing to do with the other," Sudeikis said. "That's the crazy thing. Everything that happened in season one was based on everything that happened prior to season one.
"Like, a lot of it three years prior. You know what I mean? The story's bigger than that, I hope. And anything I've gone through, other people have gone through. That's one of the nice things, right?"
