Hot for 2020 Film/TV: Dave Rudden
Looking forward to Dave Rudden bringing his writing to the screen
It’s frankly about time there was a new JK Rowling, and the former teacher may soon be the new defining voice of YA fiction, television and cinema! A master of world-building, fantasy and terrifically funny writing, Rudden is the creator of the award-winning trilogy Knights Of The Borrowed Dark, a gripping, emotional and superbly crafted story of an orphan who discovers magic – but upends all the tropes you might expect. Rudden has also written the Doctor Who short story collection Twelve Angels Weeping, which managed the spectacular feat of impressing both Doctor Who neophytes and die-hard fans. Rudden has teamed up with The Walking Dead producers Circle Of Confusion, producer-writer Arvind Ethan David (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency), Katie Holly’s Blinder Films (Love & Friendship, Extra Ordinary) and Screen Ireland to bring Knights Of The Borrowed Dark to the small screen – so we expect the realm of TV and cinema to be revelling in his genius soon enough.
