Will Smith: onscreen Barack Obama?
Smith: "I have the ears to play him"
Will Smith dropped by Stephen Colbert's Late Show to talk presidential topics.
Smith recently told reporters that he was disgusted by Donald Trump's misogyny. He and Colbert flashed back to 2008, when Smith voiced the idea of running to become the first black president.
He stated that politics interest him, and that he sometimes hears people on television and wants to run against them. Still, he says politics are "not where my greatest gifts are".
When Colbert suggested he portray the role of Barack Obama, Smith said he and the president had "talked about it a couple times".
"[Obama] said the one thing that's for sure is I have the ears to play him", the actor shared.
Smith went on to voice hope that American race relations would improve, likening the current tumult to "the dark before the dawn".
He then took the chance to surprise the crowd with part of his Fresh Prince smash 'Summertime'.
Watch both is interview and the performance below.
