Watch:Trailer For new Churchill biopic Darkest Hour with Gary Oldman
The chameleon actor inhabits yet another role.
Yet another iconic actor is taking on the role of Winston Churchill in 2017. After John Lithgrow played the wartime prime minister in Netflix's The Crown and Brian Cox took on the role in last month's Churchill, now its the turn of another beloved thespian Gary Oldman.
'Darkest Hour' chronicles the early days of the Tory leaders first term in office during the second world war. Oldman is made up dramatic physical transformation with make -up to appear as the historical figure. Also starring is Ben Mendlesohn as King George VI, aswell as Kirstin Scott Thomas and Lily James.
The official synopsis reads: “Within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: Exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation"
Joe wright has previously directed the likes of Anna Karenina and Pride and Prejudice.
