The movie is due out later this year.
The first teaser trailer for Disney's upcoming CGI animated movie Moana has been released. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as the demi-God Maui from Hawaiian mythology.
The trailer gives us an introduction to his character as well as the titular character Moana played by Auli'i Cravahlo. The plot of the movie centres around Moana and Maui searching for a lost, fabled and together and overcoming obstacles and realisations about myths along the way. It takes place in the world of Oceana, one heavily based off of Southern Pacific cultures and geography.
The movie was revealed by Disney last year who have in the past faced criticism over their lack of diversity. Prior to Moana the only other princess of colour in the Disney studio catalogue was Tiana from 2009's The Princess and The Frog.
Directors of the The Little Mermaid, Ron Clements and John Musker were in charge of the project which also features music from Tony award winner and Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda. Check out the trailer below.
