Watch: Mifune: The Last Samurai
Tom Cruise has nothing on Toshiro Mifune.
A new documentary from director Steven Ozaki tells the story of Toshiro Mifune, the legendary Japanese actor and face of sixteen Akira Kurosawa films. In contrast the ideal Japanese man, Mifune was a rebel with an attitude that rivaled the likes of James Dean.
The trailer highlights aspects of his life, with commentary by Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. Notably, Mifune had a major influence on Western cinema, with George Lucas and Sergio Leone taking direct influence from the actor and his performance and infusing their own films with that spirit.
