Watch: First trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog movie
The latest trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film dropped today, to the dismay – and hilarity – of some hardcore fans.
The film stars Parks and Recreation alum Ben Schwartz as the voice of the eponymous blue hedgehog, first introduced by Sega in 1991, alongside James Marsden as Sheriff Tom Wachowski, Sonic’s unexpected ally, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, better known as the series’ main villain Dr. Eggman. Sonic the Hedgehog is slated for release in November of this year.
The trailer opens on Wachowski clocking a mysterious blue ball of light on his speedometer before showing the title character in his full CGI glory. To the tune of Coolio’s ‘Gangsta’s Paradise,’ Sonic runs down a highway, triggering a blackout across the northwestern United States. In order to figure out what caused the surge, the government calls in the help of the abrasive Dr. Robotnik, who proceeds to hunt down Sonic.
Reactions to the trailer have been mixed at best. Whilst some fans can see the trailer’s merits…
The Sonic trailer has me...uhhh....whatever the exact opposite of how I felt about The Detective Pikachu trailers is...BUT I feel like kids who have no real previous connection and expectation from the franchise will probably love it.

Despite how fucking ghastly Sonic looks in the movie I do think Jim Carrey is going to nail the part of Robotnik from the looks of things. He's channeling 90's era Jim Carrey which is best Jim Carrey as we all know. pic.twitter.com/sOOq2CwKbw
