TV SHOW OF THE DAY: Motherland (BBC 2, 10PM)
A brand new series, which takes an unflinching look at the pains of middle class motherhood Motherland's first episode airs tonight on BBC2.
Starring Anna Maxwell Martin (Philomena) as Julia, a woman on the end of her tether as she attempts to balance motherhood, marriage and a career. Her greatest challenge however, is keeping at bay the snark of the other mothers, otherwise known as the 'Alpha Mums', whose smiles might not let on that they are secretly hoping Julia will fail.
Motherland also stars Diane Morgan (Philomena Cunk from Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe) and Lucy Punch (Hot Fuzz, New Girl) as Amanda, the leader of the Alpha Mums.
Written by Graham Linehan (Father Ted, Black Books), Sharon Horgan (Pulling, Catastrophe), Helen Linehan and Holly Walsh, a pilot episode of Motherland first aired as part of the BBC's Sitcom Season in September 2016.
