The IFI To Screen Two New Music Documentaries This July
This July, the Irish Film Institute will screen two new music documentaries, Gregory Porter: Don't Forget Your Music and Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary, at DOC'N'ROLL, a special selection from the London DOC'N'ROLL festival.
The former, created by former musician Alfred George Bailey, is a black-and-white doc exploring the progression of the Grammy award-winner from injured football player to jazz singer to international star. The film screens Wednesday, July 5th at 18.20 and will be followed by a Q&A with producer Heather Taylor.
Chasing Trane, directed by John Scheinfeld, documents the life of jazz legend John Coltrane, zeroing in on his run with Miles Davis's jazz group, his battle with heroin addition, and the creation of A Love Supreme. It features interviews with Denzel Washington, Bill Clinton, and jazz artists Wayne Shorter and Sonny Rollins. It will screen on Sunday, July 9th at 16.00.
Buy tickets here or from the IFI Box Office at 01-6793477.
