Steven Soderbergh shot an entire film on his iPhone in secret
It stars The Crown's Claire Foy and Juno Temple
Anyone who is familiar with the early work of Steven Soderbergh would know that he is got his name working in low-budget cinema with his pioneering,low-key Sex,Lies and Videotape helping to kick-start the independent movement in US cinema in the 1990s.
Since making a name for himself he moved on the bigger projects (The Ocean's trilogy), but its clear from recent news that that he hasn't forgotten where he began. It's being reported by The Tracking Board and elsewhere that Soderbergh has shot a film on his iPhone starring The Crown's Claire Foy and Juno Temple.
Right now the project has a working title "Unsane" and the director will distributing the film himself in the US through his Fingerprint Releasing but is still looking for an international distributor. Soderbergh's next film is the crime caper Logan Lucky--set for release in august--which will be his first in feature in over four years. The filmmaker had previously said he had retired from making movies.
"Unsane" is not the first high-profile release shot on the Apple device. Sean Baker's transgender comedy Tangerine was a breakout hit for the director and used a similar method to capture a DIY feel.
