Simon Delaney to lead Gate Theatre production of The Snapper
Irish actor and TV presenter Simon Delaney will take on the role of Jimmy Sr in the Gate Theatre stage production of The Snapper.
For his performance in the 1993 cult classic, Meaney was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
First published in 1990, Roddy Doyle's The Snapper made the jump to the screen in 1993 with director Stephen Frears and Meaney and Tina Kellegher in the lead roles. It will receive its world stage premiere in Dublin's Gate Theatre this summer.

Speaking to RTE entertainment, Delaney admitted that he has a tough act to follow in Colm Meaney.
"Some young fella called Colm Meaney had a go of it a couple of years ago, it went alright for him, but yeah they're big shoes to fill and it's one of the most beloved Irish films," Delaney said of the news.
The Snapper will run in Dublin's Gate Theatre from June 14 to September 15, with tickets on sale now.
