Sam Mendes Might Direct a New James and the Giant Peach
Live action adaptations have become a hot item for Disney. Looks like they’re lining up yet another project.
You may or may not remember the 1996 stop motion animated feature James and the Giant Peach, based on the Roald Dahl book. It may be that the film was eclipsed by other Disney movies of the time, such as another stop motion animated feature about a Halloween king’s newfound obsession with Christmas. Or it may have just been a bit too weird for general audiences. But Disney remembers, as does Sam Mendes.
With the success of Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book, Disney is taking advantage of the box office draw that their live action adaptations of older works. Beauty and the Beast is already in the works, with a possibility for another take on The Little Mermaid.
Sam Mendes is known for his work on American Beauty and Skyfall. With a filmography like that, it’ll be interesting to see how he handles James and the Giant Peach.
