The Oscar-winning director is walking away from the 007 series on a high.
Both Skyfall and Spectre have been a huge commercial and critical success for Mendes but the director has made his decision to part ways with Bond.
Mendes successful run of the 007 series has grossed over $2 billion worldwide so this news will come with a tinge of disappointment for the fans. Addressing the news at the Hay Festival, Mendes explained the reasoning behind his departure; "“It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it but I think it's time for somebody else. I’m a storyteller,” he added. “And at the end of the day, I want to make stories with new characters.”
Mendes' confirmation also come in the midst of rumors swirling that Craig is also done donning the tuxedo and sipping martinis. Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Aidan Turner are all in the supposed running to becoming the next 007. Craig has made quite the impressionable Bond considering the backlash he faced when named in the beginning. Barbara Brocolli, veteran producer of the film franchise, will call the final shot when it comes to choosing the next Bond.
Does this mean a complete revamp for the Bond series with a new director and Bond in tow? We will keep our eyes peeled.
