ROE releases new single 'A Temporary Thing'
ROE's latest single 'A Temporary Thing' is a moving ballad of loss featuring gorgeous piano and vocals.
Today, Derry songwriter ROE has released her new single 'A Temporary Thing'. Following on from her upbeat 2022 single ‘I Dare You’, the new track showcases a different side of the rising artist.
The track was recorded live in one take at Attica Audio by Tommy McLaughlin of Villagers acclaim. ‘A Temporary Thing’ is simple and understated, but packs an emotional punch. Relying only on piano and vocals - it carries a message of love, loss, helplessness, and hope.
"I don’t think you ever really know what to say to console someone who’s grieving. I don’t think there are any magic words out there that can take that kind of pain away," says the songwriter.
"I wrote 'A Temporary Thing' for my mum when my granny passed on, when I realised that the most helpful way to comfort someone is to just let them feel how they need to and be there for when they need you.”
The acclaimed 21-year-old multi-instrumentalist has been making waves in the Irish music scene since 2017, when her performance at the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury led to gigs across Europe, North America, and India. In 2018 she won BBC's Northern Ireland Music Prize for Best Emerging Artist and toured alongside Snow Patrol.
After last year’s 'Cruel' took her to a coveted spot on the BBC Radio 1 playlist and a successful collaboration with fellow Northern Irish songwriter Ciaran Lavery on ‘Destroyer’, ROE is continuing what is sure to be her biggest year.
