PREMIERE: Abbacaxi shares atmospheric new song 'You Took My Love' ahead of debut EP

Dublin multi-instrumentalist Abbacaxi has returned with an atmospheric, pulsating new song, 'You Took My Love' — the lead single off of his debut EP Endless, which will be available to stream tomorrow, May 13th.

Marrying the sounds of deep house with ambient beats and crescendoing instrumentals, 'You Took My Love' is the perfect example of new-age dance-pop — texturally dynamic, lyrically interesting and inherently catchy. Building the song up layer by layer, the track swells into a break, Abbacaxi's soft vocals bridging the gap between the emotional lyricism and upbeat backing track.

"This song, and the EP, are inspired by depression, sex, good vibes and bad vibes, and beautiful and toxic relationships," he told Hot Press about the song. It's something that anyone can relate to, and the refraining chorus of "You took the love from me," superimposed over the increasingly swirling beats feels like realising the harm of a bad relationship, and choosing to finally move forward.

The recording project of Dublin native Thomas Garnett, Abbacaxi has been on the scene since 2020 — and now, two years and five singles later, he is thrilled to share Endless as his first body of work.

"I wrote the Endless EP when I returned to Ireland after many years of living abroad. I had no money, but I was having a great time writing my own music, making new friends and reacquainting myself with old ones," explained Garnett. "

"These tracks are inadvertently linked to those times, as I made my way through the murky waters of my early twenties, and both the beautiful and ugly moments which come along with that."

Drawing on influences the likes of St Germain and Little Dragon, the producer/singer has been steadily defining his sound. Taking elements from jazz, funk and disco, he is taking the underwater-feel of house and adding modern dynamics to create his own signature blend of sound — marking him firmly as one to watch in the Irish electronic scene.
