November 9 is now officially Wu-Tang day in New York City
Happy Wu-Tang Day to those who celebrate. New York City has declared today (November 9) as the official Wu-Tang Day – celebrating by lighting up the Empire State Building in the group's signature black and yellow.
New York City has declared November 9 as the official Wu-Tang Day to honour the group on the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Mayor Eric Adams also announced that the Empire State Building will be lit up in the group’s signature black and yellow colours.
Released on November 9th, 1993, 36 Chambers was a classic from the get-go. The group of nine rappers — RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa — came together to make rap history on iconic songs like “Protect Ya Neck” and “C.R.E.A.M.”
RZA wrapped up the final season of his Hulu series, Wu-Tang: American Saga, documenting the rise of Wu-Tang Clan, this year. The group’s de facto leader is currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of 36 Chambers with a run of symphony shows at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City.
