New Statement From Jim Carrey Amidst Wrongful Death Suit

The comedy star speaks out in the ongoing suit over the death of ex-girlfriend Cathriona White.

Jim Carrey met Cathriona White at a Guns n' Roses gig back in 2012. The two dated until 2015, shortly before White's death by suicide.

Following her, her mother Brigid Sweetman and estranged husband Mark Burton filed a wrongful death suit against Carrey, claiming that he supplied White with lethal prescription drugs, leading to an overdose.

Finally, Carrey broke silence, telling his side of the story. According to him, the two fell in love shortly after meeting at the gig. “Although Cat and I had our ups and downs as any couple does, we were very much in love. Cat asked me to marry her so she could get a green card and avoid deportation to Ireland. She was someone I truly cared about but I was not prepared to marry her to keep her in this country as she requested,” said Jim.

Since Carrey was reluctant to go through with a marriage for the sake of a green card, White went through a sham marriage to Mark Burton. “She resided with me at my home in Malibu for substantial times when we were a couple. To my surprise I later learned that she had married a man in Las Vegas for her green card.

“Cat was regularly at my home in January 2013, I was supporting her financially. We were very much in love.”

As it turned out, White had done the wedding in secret. “I never met her green card husband Mark Burton until after her death, nor did she discuss with me any details of her marriage while she was alive.

“Nor did she ever tell me that she had a wedding, or that she had been courted by Mr Burton. She never wore a wedding ring.

“Cat’s mother recently confirmed to me in an email that her and her entire family were aware that the wedding to Mr Burton was fake,” he said.

According to Carrey, White had become aggravated with the actor over focussing his time to his daughter, who was in the hospital for emergency surgery. After moving her belongings out of his home, White was found dead a few days later.
