Five Pilot Orders from the CW, with Riverdale Spin-off in the Works
The CW have order five pilots for the 2019-2020 schedule, including comic-inspired series, spin-offs and a reboot.
The CW have ordered five new pilots for the 2019-2020 season, a decrease from last year's nine. The new shows include a Jane the Virgin spin-off renamed Jane the Novela, a drama entitled Lost Boys, the DC Comics-inspired Batwoman, a Nancy Drew reboot and a Riverdale spin-off series following the Archie Comics character Katy Keene. Although more pilot schedules are expected throughout the year.
Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator confirmed the spin-off in an excited tweet, "The Riverdale universe expands! Thrilled to be bringing the adventures of Katy Keene and her New York pals to life." Roberto Aguirre Sacasa also mentioned he is chuffed to be working on this project with friend Michael Grassi, a writer on Riverdale.

Interestingly many people believe eccentric singer Katy Perry's overall persona is based on the Archie Comics character Katy Keene, with some of her music videos striking an uncanny resemblance to the fictional character. Below is a still from Perry's video for 'Roar' compared to an old issue of Katy Keene.

The Riverdale writers tend to incorporate music into the series well and it's uncertain whether or not the team will play into this theory.
