Our man on the sofa Stuart Clark looks forward to Gérard Depardieu and Dustin Hoffman hitting the smallscreen.
Gérard Depardieu stars as Mayor Robert Taro in Marseille, Netflix’s first original French language series, which you’ll be able to binge on from May 8.
“As the municipal elections approach in Marseille, Taro, the city’s first citizen for the last twenty years, prepares his last coup: push through the vote for the construction of a casino in the historic centre of the Marina,” reads the blurb.
“Nothing has been left to chance, and his successor, Lucas Barrès, is already designated. But the latter’s all-consuming ambition and the secret interests of the city’s leaders, whether they come from its opulent villas or from the cities of the northern suburbs, impede the Mayor’s plans.
The race for Mayor becomes a power struggle where no holds are barred. Only one question arises: how far will they go?”
The answer to that, we suspect, being “extremely”.
Happy Valley and Mr. Selfridge star Katherine Kelly plays a teacher in Class, a Doctor Who spinoff set in Coal Hill School, which has featured in the latter since 1963.
“Class is anything but history, though,” stresses executive producer Steven Moffatt who promises “something dark and sexy and right now” in the vein of a British Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
It’s also been confirmed that the good Doctor will be getting a new assistant. The departing Clara, AKA Jenna Coleman, has bagged the Queen-ly lead in ITV’s Victoria mini-series, which is being tipped to be as big a period drama hit as Downton Abbey.
