Natalie Portman to Play Both Leads in Upcoming Film
Not only is she playing both starring roles, but she is also directing the picture.
Portman will star as identical twin sister advice columnists Pauline and Esther Friedman, better known as Ann Landers and Dear Abby's Abigail Van Buren. The Friedman sisters began writing rival agony aunt columns in American newspapers in the mid '50s. ‘Dear Abbey’ appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and ‘Ask Ann Landers’ featured in the Chicago-Sun Times.
The upcoming feature film which is yet to be named will explore the bitter personal and professional rivalry between the pair.
The screenplay for the film was written by Katie Robbins, a producer and staff writer on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Affair. The film is being produced by Peter Saraf who worked on the Academy Award winning Little Miss Sunshine in 2006.
Apart from playing the dual lead, Portman is working on other projects. Images have been revealed of Portman playing a pop star in Brady Corbet’s new film, Vox Lux, which premiers on the fall festival circuit this year. Vox Lux will follow the 15-year journey of Celeste, a young woman who survives a shooting and rises to international pop stardom. She also stars in the upcoming Pale Blue Dot, co-starring Jon Hamm and Zazie Beetz, where she plays an astronaut.
