Martin Scorsese to receive award from President Michael D Higgins
The filmmaker will be honoured with the prestigious John Ford Award tomorrow in Dublin.
Tomorrow in Dublin, master filmmaker Martin Scorcese will be awarded the John Ford Award by President Michael D Higgins at a special IFTA ceremony. The event will be monitored by director Brian Kirk, known for his work on such acclaimed series as Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and Penny Dreadful.
Before receiving the award, Scorsese will also conduct a masterclass for aspiring filmmakers who want to learn from the best. He will share what he learned from his own influences, including John Ford himself, the Irish-American director who created 140 films in his career.
Scorsese is thrilled to receive the award, and released a statement saying: “To be honoured by the Irish Film & Television Academy and to receive an award created in celebration of John Ford’s artistry and prestige, has great personal significance for me.”
Scorsese's masterclass is run in association with Screen Training Ireland. The Irish Film and Television Academy is currently collaborating with the University Philosophical Society of Trinity College, where Mr Scorsese will speak with the Phil Society Members and be honoured with the Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage of the Society.
