Mark Rylance talks female James Bond
Deadpans he would only take role “if it’s Jane Bond”
Asked whether he would consider playing James Bond, Mark Rylance replied he would only take the role “if it’s Jane Bond”.
Rylance had been talking to an interviewer about playing women in his career when the question came up. He followed his reply with some loud laughter, then added, “If they decide to have a woman, then I’ll go up for that”.
As of yet, there is no word that Rylance is being considered for the part. Bookmakers have cited Tom Hiddleston, Aidan Turner, and Damian Lewis as frontrunners for the role.
Rylance is not the first actor to voice support for a Jane Bond casting. X-Files actress Gillian Anderson tweeted a fan-made poster featuring herself in the role, garnering an enthusiastic response on Twitter.
