Director of The Avengers and Buffy The Vampire Slayer says he would return to Marvel to direct Scarlett Johansson's famous super spy.
Following the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, director and writer Joss Whedon famously parted ways with Marvel Studios. But he may be due a return.
In a recent interview, the director mentioned that the prospect of a Black Widow film could bring him back. "If someone pointed at me and said, 'do you want to make a Black Widow movie?' the answer would be 'duh'."
In an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic–Con, Whedon spoke about the super–spy and what excites him about the character, “I think that character really is very interesting and very earthbound, so it’s the kind of action that I got to do less of with somebody like Thor or The Vision."
Whedon also had this to say about the star of Black Widow herself: “Scarlett Johansson is just delightful. She works really hard but she just spends most of her time cracking me up, so it would be a fun shoot.”

With more projects centred on female characters such as Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman coming down the line, it seems more and more likely that Black Widow will finally get her long awaited stand alone.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige has danced around the topic of a Black Widow film since the character first appeared on our screens in 2010. However, there is certainly a demand for one from the fans, and with Scarlett Johansson and Joss Whedon behind the project, it's hard to see it not happening.
