Johnny Depp's character in Fantastic Beasts sequel revealed

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits the theatres November 18, but planning for the sequel has already begun. Johnny Depp will star as Gellert Grindelwald in the next film - a character similar to Voldemort.

According to Harry Potter wikipedia, Grindelwald possesses very arrogant traits, although he is highly intelligent, magically talented, idealistic, and ambitious.

Director David Yates believes Depp can take this dynamic character and make him into something great: “The whole principal of casting the movie was go with the best actor. Go for the most inspired, interesting, right fit for that character. And as we approached Grindelwald we thought, ‘Who’s going to take this in an interesting direction?’

Shooting for the second of four Fantastic Beats will begin in the new year. The sequel is expected to be released in 2018.
