Nearly two decades later, John Turturro will return as the infamous bowler.
In an odd turn of events, John Turturro’s Going Places, a remake of 1974 French sex comedy Les Valseuses, was revealed to be a spin-off of the Coen Brothers’s cult classic film, The Big Lebowski. People remember the film for its many creative, gutburstingly funny moments, including The Jesus, whose name is pronounced exactly like the “Jesus” part of Jesus of Nazareth. Despite two brief appearances in the original film, The Jesus is fondly remembered for his unsavory behavior, centered on aggressively sexual and bizarre actions.
John Turturro has expressed desire to return to the character as early as 2014. “If I can get the permission I need, I’d like to return to that role.” While Joel and Ethan Coen have declined similar projects in the past, it sounds like they may have given Turturro their blessing to use the character.

If the plot of Going Places is still modeled after Les Valseuses, then it will feature a woman joining up with two crooks in hopes of achieving her first orgasm. From the sound of it, Turturro’s film will be that, but with his character, The Jesus, in a starring role. The movie will also star Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, and Susan Sarandon.
