Suicide Squad director responds to bad reviews
Quotes Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata
"I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees" is a useful phrase. It can be used as a motto for class revolution against violent oppression, sure, but it also applies equally to millionaire comic book-film directors being oppressed by middling reviews.
Or at least that's what Suicide Squad director David Ayer seems to think.
With Suicide Squad getting slammed by critics much like its Batman v Superman predecessor, Ayer took to Twitter to defend his work.
He quoted the above Zapata saying in Spanish, and elaborated that the tweet was his "way of saying I love the movie and believe in it". He added that he made the film "for the fans".
Some DC film fans have launched a petition on change.org asking for Rotten Tomatoes to shut down completely. The main petitioner argues that critics "give the DC Extended movies unjust Bad Reviews [petitioner's capitalization]", and thus the entire site should be shut down.
We'll see how that goes.
