Irish Club Collectives To Watch Out For: Cabal
We take at a look at the collectives in Ireland reinventing the nightlife scene.
Event organisers Cabal emerged in Limerick in February 2017, with a central goal of promoting a creative culture in Ireland through music, fashion and art. Although the collective started life primarily as an independent fashion brand, their launch events soon generated interest far exceeding the capacity of their local café venue. Since then, Cabal have become outspoken advocates of Irish music, and have made Limerick institution Dolan’s Warehouse their central base of operations.
There’s a notable emphasis on inclusivity in Cabal’s work: by working with artists across a range of genres, they offer something for everyone. With 14 sold-out shows under their belts, the approach is working. In the last few months alone, Cabal have presented an incredible array of Irish talent, including Colin Perkins, Brién, George Feely, Holly Lester and Gaptoof.
As well as building a strong cultural community in Limerick, there’s also a potent online element to their work, largely through their website, cabal.ie. Here you’ll find their Local Selectors mix series and their Cabal Cuts compilation releases, as well as their clothing lines. At the end of this month, Cabal will celebrate their second birthday with an event featuring DJ Deece. This show will also see the launch of an original concept space, adding a new dynamic to their events.
