Idris Elba Working on Directing Debut Yardie
Idris Elba is stepping off-screen to seat himself firmly onto the director's chair for directing debut, Yardie
He's had quite the accomplished career so far but Elba is adding another notch to his belt and establishing himself as a director.
Elba's directing debut Yardie is an ambitious one as he will be adapting Victor Headley's 1993 novel. Yardie is the story of D, a drug courier smuggling cocaine from Jamaica into London. Instead of following the protocol however, D goes off on his own accord, disappearing into the streets of Hackney taking the kilo of cocaine for himself to sell for his own profit. Needless to say, the headmasters of the cocaine game are out for vengeance when they discover D's treachery.
Yardie will be a feature to mark Studiocanal's 10th anniversary. The development of Yardie is all very fresh and new so no casting or date details have been confirmed. Elba is still a busy man however and you can catch him next as the evil Krall in Star Trek Beyond on July 22 or in the more family-friendly version of the sea-lion Fluke in Finding Dory on July 29.
