Idina Menzel to star in Beaches reboot
The 1988 original film was a boxoffice smash hit, making 'The Wind Beneath My Wings' a pop culture anthem.
This week saw the loss of one of the great romantic comedy directors: Gary Marshall. A favourite among actors, he was famous for films such as Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride and The Princess Diaries.
Now, one of his most famous films, Beaches is getting a reboot by Lifetime Network.
The 1988 film became a romcom classic, grossing $57 million and 'The Wind Beneath My Wings' won Grammies for Record and Song of the Year.
Broadway sensation Idina Menzel will play the role of CC, originated by Bette Midler, and will take on iconic songs such as 'Wind' and 'The Glory of Love'. In addition to the classic tunes, Menzel will record additional songs for the Lifetime remake, produced by Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan. The film is set to be released in 2017.
