Detective Pikachu gets its Writers
Legendary Pictures is priming itself for the live action Pokémon movie.
Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote Guardians of the Galaxy, and Alex Hirsch, creator and writer of Gravity Falls, have joined the Detective Pikachu movie. Such a pedigree of creativity and talent should hopefully elevate the movie into something special.
The announcement that Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to a live action Pokémon movie came shortly after the release of the hugely popular Pokémon Go. With the recent release of The Angry Birds Movie and the upcoming big budget Assassin’s Creed, Hollywood is eager to turn video game properties into successful film. Can it be done? So far, there hasn’t been big success with movies based on video games, but with the medium growing to rival big film, it stands to reason that major studios will continue to push for adaptations of major video games.
