Cardboard Gangsters set to be biggest Irish movie of the year
Cardboard Gangsters is on course to become the biggest Irish movie of the year after it increased its box office take by 80% in its second weekend in Irish cinemas.
Mark O’Connor’s Dublin crime drama pulled in €78k and hit third position in the charts, just behind Transformers: Age of Extinction and Wonder Woman while playing in 47 cinemas..
The film’s opening weekend was the strongest of any Irish film this year, narrowly beating Handsome Devil.
The film opened in Northern Ireland at the weekend. Its combined 32-county box office take stands at €192k.
Set in Darndale, the film stars John Connors as a small-time dealer who attempts to climb the ladder in Dublin’s drug trade. Damien Dempsey and Dublin rapper Paul Alwright, also known as Lethal Dialect also make appearances.
