A Date for Mad Mary will be available on DVD and On Demand this Friday, revisit the Hot Press interview with director Darren Thornton here.
The highly acclaimed comedy A Date for Mad Mary will be available on DVD and On Demand this Friday. The movie tells the story of "Mad" Mary, as she returns home from a brief prison sentence to find that her hometown has moved on all to fast without her, and that her best friend, Charlene, is getting married. As Charlene has put her down on the guest list without a plus one, seeing as she "couldn't possibly find a date anyway," Mary sets out on a quest to prove her wrong.
The film is set in director Darren Thornton's hometown of Drogheda, and he spoke to Hot Press about how he drew inspiration for the film from his own experiences. He wrote the film with his brother, Colin, and according to him, the brothers' “did draw on our experiences of having a love-hate relationship with a town that can feel very oppressive at times when everyone knows all about you.”
