Fiona Shaw Wins TV Bafta For Killing Eve, Derry Girls Misses Out
Other winners of the night included Benedict Cumberbatch and Louis Theroux.
Irish actress Fiona Shaw was awarded a TV Bafta for best supporting actress last night for her role in BBC's Killing Eve.
This was Shaw's first time being nominated for a Bafta. The Cork native said playing work-obsessed MI6 agent Carolyn Martens in the series was "probably the greatest pleasure of my life." In her speech, Shaw spoke about having to ditch her Irish accent for the role and thanked her wife, Sonali Dereniyagala, and show-runner Phoebe Waller Bridge.
It was a big night for Killing Eve. Jodie Comer took home best actress for her was as Russian assassin Villanelle over her co-star Sandra Oh, and the series winning for best drama series.
Elsewhere in the ceremony, Derry Girls lost out to Sally 4Ever for best scripted comedy series, which drew negative reactions from fans and critics on social media, with many calling it a snub. Benedict Cumberbatch won his first Bafta for the mini-series Patrick Melrose. This is the eighth time Cumberbatch was nominated for a Bafta.
