Films Of Note will see a stunning collection of tune-packed flicks over the coming month
Films Of Note, Dublin’s own music film festival, kicks off this evening in the Sugar Club and there is a mouthwatering line-up of films on offer over the next month.
Commencing tonight with Asif Kapadia’s acclaimed Amy, other highlights of the packed bill include Finding Fela! (July 15), the Irish premiere of Lee Scratch Perry’s Vision Of Paradise (17), LCD Soundsystem’s Shut Up And Play The Hits (30) and Talking Heads’ classic concert film Stop Making Sense (August 5).
The lineup also acknowledges the major musical talent we have lost this year, with a screening of DA Pennebaker’s legendary David Bowie film Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars on July 30. However, perhaps the highlight of the lot is the showing on July 23 of Prince’s ‘lost’ concert movie, Sign O’ The Times, which offers the chance to see one of the all-time great live performers in all his glory.
Prince fans should also note the Irish premiere of Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai – an utterly fascinating remake of Purple Rain by Tuareg musicians in Niger.
Add in the great atmosphere, pre-show DJs and excellent grub and drink, and you have an unmissable event.
Tickets cost between €8 and €12.
