Dublin LBGT Film Festival 'Gaze' Announces Line-Up

Kicking off from August 2-6 at the Light House Cinema in Smithfield, Dublin, film festival Gaze will be showing LBGT movies from around the world.

Most notably, the festival will premiere two highly anticipated new dramas: Disobedience, a lesbian love story set in London's Orthodox Jewish community starring Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams, and The Miseducation of Cameron Post featuring Chloe Grace Moretz as a teenager in 90's America sent to a conversion camp.

Disobedience is from Chilean writer-director Sebastián Lelio whose transgender drama A Fantastic Woman picked up an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Meanwhile, Cameron Post is from Desiree Akhavan whose last film Appropriate Behaviour received raves upon release in 2014.

GAZE programmer Roisín Geraghty said in a statement “This year’s programme, while including something for all audiences, is also a reflection of what a year it has been for women – in portrayals on screen, behind the camera, and social shifts in the feminist movement. We really hope that audiences will come to support the festival and enjoy the selection of films and discussions on offer.”

Also, screening at Gaze is French drama Reinventing Martin staring Golden Globe winner Isabelle Huppert, as well as a reissue of classic Hollywood director Robert Aldrich's The Killing of Sister George.

There will also be plenty of documentaries. Riot, shining a spotlight on Australia’s gay and lesbian rights movement kicks off the festival.

Also, screening are two music docs. Tranny Fag focuses on transgender Brazilian singer Linn da Quebrada, while closing film Love, Scott is about Scott Jones, a young gay musician who was attacked and paralyzed from the waist down.

Also, at the festival there will be a surprise film, as well as various workshops and lectures. The 'MOBDOC Workshop' will teach aspiring filmmakers to utilise mobile filmmaking techniques, while discussion 'Dykes, Camera, Action' will probe ask whether lesbian cinema has entered its golden age.
