Daniel Craig to star in movie set in LA during Rodney King riots
Halle Berry to costar as love interest
James Bond-star Daniel Craig will star in an interracial love story set in 1992 Los Angeles.
Set against the backdrop of the Rodney King riots, the film will center on Craig's Ollie, a white man who falls for a working-class mother played by Halle Berry. During the riots, Ollie and Berry’s character join together to find her children and bring them to safety.
The film, entitled Kings, is a passion project of director Deniz Gamze Ergüven. Last year, her film Mustang was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
Kings is not the only film centering on the Rodney King riots in development; John Ridley, who wrote the screenplays for 12 Years a Slave and the André 3000-starring Jimi: All Is By My Side, is also developing a project about the riots.
