Both series were Spanish hit dramas for 4od and Netflix
Alex Pina, the creative mind behind the most watched non-English show on Netflix, Money Heist, has signed an exclusive deal with the streaming platform.
Under the deal, the showrunner (also behind Channel4's hit prison drama Locked Up) will produce new series and projects exclusively for Netflix.
Pina in a statement said of the announcement: "“Working alongside Netflix is a dream come true. We are living in a moment where series are becoming one of the most relevant cultural movements ever."
Adding, the writer notes: "The possibility of reaching the last corner on the planet and building a world where content of all languages can travel globally, is to be part of the dream of thousands of creatives from around the world."
Part of the deal is the start of production on Money Heist season three, slated for release in 2019. Meanwhile, currently in development from Pina is Sky Rojo, a female-action drama that is set to start production also in next year.
Money Heist's second season came out in April of this year. The trailer for the series - which sees an enigmatic man nicknamed 'The Professor who assembles a crew to rob €2.4 billion - can be seen below.
